Pedro Peña is an overweight Latino boy living in Fawcett City.
After history is rewritten by the Flash, radically different versions of Captain Marvel and his family are introduced. Pedro Peña along with his five friends Billy Batson, Eugene Choi , Darla Dudley, Freddy Freeman, Mary Batson, and pet cat Tawky Tawny are trapped in a subway car that transports them to the Rock of Eternity. There they meet the wizard Shazam who grants each of the children with a different one of the wizard's attributes. Pedro Pẽna, due to his size and presence in the group, is given the strength of Hercules.
By saying the word "Shazam" together, the six children possess the collective ability to turn into Captain Thunder, this timeline's version of Captain Marvel.
Cyborg, the Flash, Batman, Enchantress and Element Woman meet with the group of children and ask for their help. Billy is swayed to the heroes' cause after he uses his abilities to see what the timeline is supposed to be like while stabilizing the Flash's memories, as they were adjusting to the current timeline. Billy convinces Pedro and the other children to help. They come together and shout "Shazam" and they merge into Captain Thunder. The heroes and Captain Thunder travel to what is left of Europe to stop the war between the Atlantean and the Amazons. Captain Thunder fights with the Amazon leader Wonder Woman to a draw before being transformed back into the six children by Enchantress, who is revealed to be a traitor. Before the kids can reform Captain Thunder, Billy is stabbed by Penthesilea, one of the Amazons, killing the young boy. This left Pedro and the rest of the group devastated.
The Flash's changes to reality created a new world where Pedro's life had significantly changed. In this new world, Pedro Peña is one of the Vasquezes' foster children along with Mary, Freddie, Eugene and Darla. He meets and one of the new foster children Billy Batson, but stutters due to his shyness. Billy does not get on well with his new family due to the death of his own.
The New 52
Pedro Peña is Billy Batson's foster brother, an overweight teenager of Mexican descent who is around Billy's age. Introduced in the Flashpoint miniseries, Pedro can share Billy's power by saying "Shazam!" and becoming an adult Shazam-powered version of himself in a green uniform. Pedro's adult form, resembling a tall, bearded powerlifter, is a stark contrast to his personal insecurity and shyness. While the comics have yet to make any such distinction, the 2019 live-action feature film Shazam! implies that Pedro is gay or asexual.
In superhuman form, Pedro has extra amounts of super-strength compared to the rest of the Shazam Family.
Powers and Abilities
Pedro Peña was granted the Strength of Hercules by the Wizard Shazam:
- Superhuman Strength: Granted by Hercules, Amon, Hippolyta and Voldar. Chosen ones have incredible physical strength, enough to lift at least 100 tons. They can effortlessly bend steel, punch through walls, and lift massive objects. They've also been seen able to crack the crust of planets, physically hold off multiple heroes and tear humans apart.
In other Media
The Marvel Family are included in one of the DLC bundles for Lego DC Super-Villains. Based on the Shazam! film, the "Shazam! Movie Level Pack 1 & 2" is broken into 'Sivana Escape'. Each member has different powers both in their human and Shazam form, Pedro has super strength.
